Fragrance Free Zone History
Calvary Eastside opened up its Fragrance Free Zone in March of 2004. Gene Schlimmer from Bellevue, Washington had been praying for a year that God would provide a safe room at a local church where his wife could worship, free from exposure to fragrances and other toxic chemicals. When Gene received an e-mail announcing the opening of the Zone, he was ecstatic as he felt this was a direct answer to his prayers. Rae and Judy Stephenson had been praying for years that the Lord would provide a fragrance free environment where Judy could worship, so their prayers also came to fruition with the opening of the Zone.
The Fragrance Free Zone is a room right next to the main auditorium where the church services at Calvary Chapel Eastside are held. There are glass paneled doors between the Fragrance Free Zone and the main auditorium, so a few of the people can view the service through the glass. In addition, there is a T.V. monitor in the Zone so that others who aren't near the glass can view the service as well. During worship, the words to the songs are displayed on the monitor. During the sermon, the monitor then shows the pastor delivering his message. After the service, refreshments are provided by the church in the Zone so that the people can stay around and fellowship together.
